📝 Project Overview 📝

Ethereum Classic is is where Ethereum forked off of in the DAO hack of 2016.

Etheruem Classic is also the oldest blockchain that makes use of Smart Contract technology. It holds the original intent for smart contracts which is to prevent manipulation, censorship, or interference from external entities.

Given a disagreement as to whether Ethereum should roll back its chain on the hack, these developers decided to continue with their own forked Ethereum Classic.

⚙️ Technology ⚙️

With its decentralized governance, Ethereum Classic combats other projects that have a single point of failure. This opens up problems with corruption, stagnation, and accountability.

Ethereum Classic offers Transaction Finality. The driver behind this feature is the belief that immutability is one of the core values of any blockchain.

Ethereum Classic is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency, which means users mine it by solving complex cryptographic algorithms. More specifically, it uses the Ethash hashing algorithm which is another distinct feature it shares with Ethereum.

Etheruem Classic also uses an internal transaction pricing mechanism called Gas. This is used in order to power smart contract computations and prevent spam on the network.

💰️ Token 💰

The token powering the Ethereum Classic blockchain is the ETC token. This is an ERC20 token.

When Ethereum Classic and Ethereum split in 2016, the price of ETC was a little below $1. It was around that same time that ETC realized it’s all-time low, checking in at $0.45 in July of 2016.

Ethereum Classic consistently ranks in the top 25 of all cryptocurrencies in terms of total market cap and has a circulating supply of almost 115 million ETC with a max supply of 210 million.

👨‍💻️ Team, Partners & Development 👨‍💻

Ethereum Classic is a fully open source blockchain which has numerous parties involved in its development.

One of the most prominent developer teams is that of ETC Labs. They do most of the heavy development lifting for the Ethereum Classic project, providing the tools necessary for mining and dApp development.

Another development team that works on Ethereum Classic is that of IOHK. IOHK are well known in the crypto space for being the major development company building out the Cardano blockchain.

These developer teams have recently implemented the Atlantis Hardfork on the Ethereum Classic blockchain. This is a system wide upgrade that was implemented to stave off some of the threats posed by 51% attacks.

Atlantis also aims to improve the interoperability of Ethereum Classic with the new Ethereum hard fork that split off in 2016.

📈 Trading & Wallets 📈

ETC is listed on veritable compendium of exchanges. These include the likes of Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, OkEX, Bittrex and a host of other offshore exchanges.

Daily trading volume is quite high and exceeds 500 million dollars in a 24 hour period. This volume is well spread out across a range of exchanges.

Storage is really quite simple given that it is an ERC20 toke – quite a range of options.
